A mobile application, usually referred to as an app, is a type of application software designed to run on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet computer. Mobile applications commonly serve to provide users with similar services to those retrieved on PCs. These applications can be pre-installed on phones during manufacturing platforms, or delivered as web applications using server-side or client-side processing (e.g., JavaScript) to provide an “application-like” experience within a Web browser. The mobile app development process typically includes idea, strategy, design, development, deployment, and post-launch phases. Mobile app development has been steadily growing, in revenues and jobs created.
