Carter Ouellette is a physiologist whose work centers on exercise interventions to preserve function and independence in older adults. He studies cardiovascular, metabolic, and musculoskeletal responses to aerobic and resistance training in aging populations. Carter's research informs guidelines on safe, effective exercise prescriptions that reduce frailty and improve quality of life. He teaches graduate courses on exercise physiology and gerontology and partners with community centres to run translational trial programmes. Carter also investigates the role of combined exercise and nutrition strategies for sarcopenia prevention. Current projects include home-based training models for rural older adults.
